Mark Naftalin, AB ’64, is a UChicago alum and an award-winning American blues pianist. He appears on the first five albums by Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the mid 1960's as a band member, alongside Elvin Bishop, and as such, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. He later worked on stage with the late fellow Butterfield Band member Mike Bloomfield and was a festival and radio producer for several decades.
The Logan Center Bluesfest, October 13-15, is an annual public celebration created to honor the South Side roots of the blues’ tradition with concerts, workshops, film, food, and conversation and will feature local and national musicians and artists in spaces throughout the Logan Center. The festival features a series of performances by musicians that reflect the diverse history of the blues tradition; a major archiving program to capture the stories of local and national blues artists; a photography exhibition; and workshops & educational programming to inspire the next generation of blues musicians and aficionados.
