Jack Mayer and Five-Fingered Lucy

"As an videomaker, I strive to create work that is formally and structurally experimental but still has affection for its audience — still aims to entertain."

Jack Lawrence Mayer, AB'10 in Cinema and Media Studies, is a filmmaker and the recipient of the 2012 Edes Prize for Emerging Artists, a year-long funding grant given out by UChicago to one recent arts alum each year. He's also the co-creator and director of Single Long, an HBO GO original Digital Comedy, and co-founder of Screen Door, a Chicago-based live movie company.

His latest project is Five-Fingered Lucy, a digital series that follows the exploits of Lucy, who "likes stealing small things. She likes the feeling of having a secret, of knowing something no one else knows. She may feel aimless in her love life, helpless in the world, harassed and leered at and flirted with on the street. But she's good at stealing."

Jack recently discussed the project with UChicago Arts.  Click here to listen to the audio interview.  And learn more about the project at seedandspark.com/studio/five-fingered-lucy
